Tips for a stress free moving day

Moving say can be a very stressful day for everyone. There will be so much activity and confusion. You will always be wondering if you missed a certain box or forgot an important detail. The key to a hassle free moving day is preparation and organisation.

First, sort out what you will be moving into your new home and what you will be leaving behind. Whatever you don’t take can be sold at a yard sale, donated to charity or recycled. Then you can move into what you will actually be packing. Make up a schedule for what you will pack every day and write up an itinerary listing what you will be taking with you. People usually use cardboard boxes for removals. Black bags are not encouraged as they cannot guarantee the safety of the items within.

Some items are fragile and have to be packed carefully to preserve them. Dishes and china have to be individually wrapped with bubble wrap. You can also fill up the gaps in the boxes with Styrofoam. If there are old blankets or clothes that you’re throwing away, you can use those as cushioning materials as well to protect breakable objects. You will have to discuss with your furniture removalist in sunshine coast on how you will be ensuring the protection of the furniture. It is better to be in possession of the dimensions of the new rooms and the doorways to know how you can carry the furniture inside. If the doorway is too small, you will have to disassemble the furniture.

You have to pack several weeks in advance as well. We usually underestimate how many things we own. But over time our houses get much cluttered and it can be hard to figure out what you have to throw away and what you can use. If you haven’t used a certain item in a long time such as rarely worn clothing, consider if it is worthwhile bringing it to the new location. You can put all the possessions of one room in one box and label it. Keep a list with you that describe what each box has for contents. This way you will not have to go through everything to find what you need.

Make sure you pack a suitcase with clothing, toiletries and other essentials that will help you in the first few days of unpacking. Keep a few spare changes of clothes. All the other boxes should be fully packed without any voids and filled in with Styrofoam or old clothing to absorb shock during the transport. The arrangement of the boxes in the moving vehicle has to be considered as well. Basically, heavier boxes will be at the bottom while light boxes will be kept at the top.
